There's a built in back pocket for your small loose notes with a flap that can be used as a bookmark as well as a loose cardstock ruler that could also be used as a bookmark. On the outside, it has a contrasting color elastic strap for keeping the notebook closed as well as a convenient pen loop (the notebook comes pre-loaded with a sharpened pencil).
